Khortni Kamyron is an open book. Always looking for new experiences, “The Head Hunter” is looking for new things to try. It should be no surprise that she’s found a sport as extreme as bare knuckle boxing.
“I love exploring and trying new things. I want to do everything at least once in my life.”
Kamyron knows that she’s seen as the underdog to the current lightweight champion. Knowing her propensity for trying new things, Kamyron has been putting herself in hard positions in anticipation for the difficulty of the upcoming fight.
“I know that I am the underdog in this fight and I have everything to prove. I have been making myself do all of the things that I am uncomfortable with and [things] that I don’t want to do. This is my job right now, so this entire camp, I have made everything else in my life revolve around my training schedule.”
Coming from another bare knuckle promotion, Kamyron has never fought in the trigon. Preparation for that is nearly necessary. The corners of the trigon present a new aspect to fighting and Kamyron is not taking that for granted.
“I have been working in a much smaller space for sparring as well as having more intention for my movements.”
Khortni Kamyron is 1-1-1 in bare knuckle boxing. But she’s no stranger to a fight. But the Oklahoma native has competed in kickboxing, boxing and MMA as an amateur. Despite her lack of bare knuckle experience, she likes her chances against a fighter like Juarez.
“I actually have a lot of experience as well. This is actually my 21st combat sports fight, and I have fought in different sports. I feel like I will bring a different mix of movement, and a Colorado elevation gas tank.”
Circling back at what she said at the beginning of the interview, Kamyron goes back to that life’s operation. She wants to be uncomfortable; craves it. Going into a title fight against a fan favorite fighter in a new promotion with a very unique fighting ring is as uncomfortable as it gets. But that’s what she wants.
“My goal has always been to take the hard and challenging fights. I want to fight the best in the world. Becoming champion would mean that I am at that level, one of the best in the world. I don’t think anything can get better than that.”
As metaphysical as it gets, fighting boils down to one simple concept. Khortni Kamyron has that concept drilled in her head: fight at the best of your abilities.
“My focus is on fighting to the best of my ability. I know when I trust myself, there is always a great fight.”
Taking on Patricia Juarez is no easy task. But Kamyron aims to become the BYB super lightweight champion. It’s to be the main event at BYB 31 live on September 21st at the Stockyards Event Center in Denver, Colorado.
