With BYB 33: Wolverhampton Brawl quickly approaching, Ryan Barrett comes in with a load of confidence. A former Royal Guard Marine, Barrett will face Dan Podmore in the co-main event. On the line is the BYB Bridgerweight Police Gazette Diamond Belt. Just before Marko Martinjak and Brad Scott throw down in the main event, both Barrett and Podmore will look to steal the show.
Ryan Barrett has a love for violence. he will literally fight anyone. he and Dan Podmore once fought in 2022. Since then, he’s fought several great fights with electrifying finishes. But interestingly, he was scheduled to fight now-heavyweight champion Gustavo Trujillo.
“I got a dream fight against Trujillo and you jump at the chance most would have turned down. He is unbeaten, unchallenged, regarded as the very best, and that to me was 1 of only 2 fights in.”
Barrett was ready to fight. He looked forward to a fight with a bull in a china shop like Trujillo. Unfortunately, he was forced out of that fight by the Florida Athletic Commission.
“I only want to fight the very best in this game. However I have a colostomy bag and have had since I had my first bare knuckle fight. Because of this the State of Florida Athletic Commission would not let me fight. I'd love the chance to fight him again.”
Again, Ryan Barrett and Dan Podmore once fought. In 2022, the two met at BKB 28, the same BKB that was absorbed earlier in the year by BYB Extreme.
“The other fight I wanted was Dan Podmore, which I have now November 9th. The only pressure I have on me is in preparation.”
Barrett leans on his time with the Royal Marines in preparation for this fight, as well of all fights. As he was answering us, he was preparing to go back for his third session at close to midnight.
“As a former Royal Marines Commando, I gain confidence in preparation. I know what I have to do in order to give the desired outcome. It’s 23:26 now as I'm filling this In and as soon as this is finished I'm going to the gym to do a third session because I'm still buzzing.”
Going into BYB 33, Ryan Barrett repeats how exciting the first fight between he and Podmore was. With some minor adjustments, Barrett thinks that the rematch will be just as exciting with a new hand raised.
“Me and Podmore are two of the most exciting fighters in bare knuckle. Our last fight is regarded by most in the top of best fights ever. I believe this fight will be no different, only with a different champion: me. November the 9th Ryan ‘The Cockroach’ Barrett becomes World BYB Bridgerweight World Champion.”
It’s midnight, Ryan Barrett. Go get another session in…
